WHAT IS THE
MOVING PROCESS?

YOUR MOVE
IN 3 SIMPLE STEPS

  1. BEFORE MOVING DAY
    • Pack Smart: Declutter, label everything, and pack a "first-night" bag.
    • Logistics: Book movers/elevators, arrange for kids/pets, and notify utilities.
    • Prepare Old Home: Do last-minute cleaning and take final meter readings.
  2. ON MOVING DAY
    • Supervise: Be present as movers load; guide fragile items and clear pathways for easier loading.
    • Final Check: Inspect all rooms, cupboards, and any drawers for forgotten items.
    • Unloading: Try to put boxes in designated rooms and ensure everything is unloaded safely.
  3. AFTER MOVING IN
    • Unpack Essentials: Set up beds, unpack toiletries, and get your kitchen functional first.
    • Clean Up: Clean as you unpack, starting with main areas like the kitchen and bathrooms.
    • Stay Organized: Put items away room by room, confirm utilities are connected, and check appliances.
  1. PICK A WEEKDAY, IF POSSIBLE

A good way to save money is to avoid a weekend and move on a weekday.

  2. CHANGE YOUR ADDRESS

Fill out the change of address online or at the post office at least 2 weeks before your move.

  3. START PACKING EARLY

The earlier you start packing, the less of a time crunch you’ll be in as move day approaches.

  4. HIRE A CLEANING SERVICE

Your place will need to be cleaned after you’ve left and hiring a cleaning service will reduce the stress of cleaning.

  5. ARRANGE SUPERVISION FOR PETS & KIDS

Moving day is stressful and chaotic. Schedule a close friend or family member to watch pets and/or children elsewhere.

  6. MAKE A MOVE DAY BOX FOR NECESSITIES

Toothbrush, change of clothes, sheets, towels... Anything you’ll need right away should go in your Move Day Box.

  7. KEEP VALUABLES IN A SAFE PLACE

Pack important documents like birth certificates, passports, jewelry together in a special box that you move personally.
